Reptiles are found in a wide range of habitats ranging from
brown-field sites to open countryside. They are particularly
vulnerable where former industrial sites, gravel/clay pits
etc are scheduled for development. In Lancashire, with the
exception of common lizard, all reptiles are considered to
be rare or absent in the county.
All reptiles, and sometimes their habitats, are protected
in varying degrees under the Wildlife and Countryside Act
1981. Survey is also relevant in relation to Section 74 (CROW
Act) and UK BAP species.
